Every October, the little river town of Bethlehem, Indiana comes alive for one of our favorite fall traditions — Autumn on the River!

Held every year on the third weekend of October, Autumn on the River is a family-friendly festival along the Ohio River featuring local vendors, homemade food, arts and crafts, antiques, live music, a parade, games, an antique tractor show and plenty of small-town fall fun. Proceeds from the festival help preserve Bethlehem’s historic schoolhouse.

Bethlehem itself has quite a story. The town was platted in 1812 — four years before Indiana became a state — and grew along the Ohio River as an early farming, trading and transportation community. Today, it’s a quiet little river town, but for one weekend every October, things get a whole lot busier!

And Then There Are the Yard Sales! 🏷️

Anyone who has been to Autumn on the River knows the festival is only part of the fun.

Homeowners throughout Bethlehem and the surrounding area take advantage of the crowds by holding yard sales, garage sales and barn sales all weekend long. Most sales begin Friday and continue through Sunday, while the official Autumn on the River festival takes place Saturday and Sunday.

The problem? Some of the best sales can be tucked away on side roads and easy to miss.
